Croydon is a Parliamentary electoral district of the House of Assembly (Lower House) in the Australian State of South Australia.

Named after the suburb of the same name, it is a 16.9km² urban rectangular-shaped electorate in Adelaide's inner north-west, taking in the suburbs of Allenby Gardens, Beverley, Brompton, Bowden, Croydon, Croydon Park, Dudley Park, Devon  Park, Flinders Park, Hindmarsh, Renown Park, Ridleyton, Welland, West Croydon, West Hindmarsh, Woodville Park as well as parts of Findon and Kilkenny.

Croydon the village was laid out in 1855, comprising Croydon Farm of 40 acres and its surrounds subdivided into five acre lots. It was named for the English village and parish, now part of Greater London.  The name comes from the French word craye (chalk) and the Saxon word dun (hill) - a town near a chalk hill.

The electorate was re-named in the 1998 redistribution, having been called Spence for 29 years and Hindmarsh for decades before that.

The 2003 redistribution made no alteration to the boundaries; the electorate keeping up with the State-wide population growth by urban infill in Brompton, Ridleyton and Allenby Gardens.

Over the years the electorate of Croydon has undergone many changes. The reclamation of land in Bowden and Brompton, such as the old Rowley Park speedway site, has seen those suburbs flourish with new housing developments and many people moving back into the area. The development of the basketball stadium at Beverley, and the Riverpark housing development on the old Hallett brickyard and the clean-up of these sites are just a few of the changes to our area.

The announcement that the Clipsal factory at Bowden would be developed for apartments, shops and offices and the extension of the tram from City West to Port Road at Hindmarsh, and electrification of both the Gawler and Outer Harbour train lines, will see many State Government projects undertaken in Croydon.

This will be what Ovingham, Dudley Park and Islington stations will look like when the Gawler line is electrified, followed by Bowden, Brompton, Croydon, West Croydon, Kilkenny, and Woodville Park stations when the Outer Harbour and Grange lines are electrified.

The tram line to Hindmarsh will join the train line at Bowden and all Glenelg trams will travel via King William Street and North Terrace to City West and then via Hindmarsh, Croydon, West Croydon, Kilkenny and Woodville Park to Port Adelaide (the old Port Dock Station) and then via the main street of Port Adelaide, Saint Vincent Street, to Semaphore. We will be able to take an electric train to Adelaide Station in the way we do now or, we will be able to take a tram from our local railway station to Glenelg via Hindmarsh, Port Road, City West and King William Street. Rail services on the line to Woodville will double with the addition of the trams.
